Item Important Stage in the Development of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery and Its Science: Bariatric Surgery Cases and Reviews: A New Peer-Reviewed Journal(Bariatric Surgery Cases and Reviews, 2014-12-11) Reiti, Andrian; Fesenko, IevgenThe purpose of this inaugural editorial is to introduce to the attention of the global surgical community a new open access and peer-reviewed journal titled Bariatric Surgery Cases and Reviews (BSCR). The term “bariatrics” was coined in 1961 by Dr. Raymond E. Dietz, from the Greek root “bar-” (“weight”), suffix “-iatr” (“treatment”), and suffix “-ic” (“pertaining to”). And the goal of bariatric surgeries is to modify the stomach and intestines to treat obesity and related diseases. Bariatric surgery is rapidly developing in the world in general and in Ukraine in particular. According to data, around the globe, the number of performed bariatric surgeries has doubled in 8 years. So, this journal is designed to meet the need of authors for a highly specialized journal dedicated specifically to the publication of case and review articles in metabolic and bariatric surgery. Together with the publisher, OMF Publishing, our editorial team adopted a publishing model that allows articles to be published in the Article in Pressstatus immediately after the review process and acceptance of the manuscript for publication. Thanks to article numbering, articles will not have to wait in line for typesetting but will be immediately published and assigned to a specific annual volume. Thus, similarly to other international open access journals, BSCR will operate in a continuous publication mode where articles are posted online as soon as they have completed the production process in a fully citable form with a digital object identifier (DOI). The article also provides an analysis of the publishing models of international surgical peer-reviewed journals with relevant conclusions for new journals. This paper sheds light on the process of choosing a name for a journal and the processes of state registration of a peer-reviewed online journal as an online media. Moreover, the original registration documents in Ukrainian are provided. In sum, we will paraphrase a quote from Noah Bowman: “Some people see surgeries as techniques, we see stories waiting to be told.” Thus, we sincerely invite national and foreign authors to submit their interesting manuscripts for peer review and further publication in this new unique bariatric and metabolic surgery journal.Item New Horizons(Journal of Diagnostics and Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2017-02-18) Tymofieiev, OleksiiItem Features of Diagnostics, Clinical Course and Treatment of the Branchial Cleft Cysts(Journal of Diagnostics and Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2017-02-18) Tymofieiev, Oleksii; Fesenko, Ievgen; Cherniak, Olha; Zaritska, ValentynaPurpose: The aim of the present study was to determine the features of diagnostics, clinical course and treatment of the branchial cleft cysts. Patients and Methods: The study composed of the branchial cleft cysts investigation and their complications in patients of different age groups, methods of diagnostics, anatomical features, surgical stages and pathomorphological study. Results: Diagnostic value of sonography, MDCT and MRI, pathomorphological study in verification of branchial cleft cysts and their complications have been proved. Surgical treatment technique is presented. Conclusion: Presented methods of diagnostics of the branchial cleft cysts and their complications, variants of clinical course and treatment can reduce the risk of failure at the pre-, intra- and post-operative stages.Item Condition of the Teeth in Fracture Gap of the Mandible(Journal of Diagnostics and Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2017-02-18) Tymofieiev, Oleksii; Fesenko, Ievgen; Tymofieiev, OlexanderPurpose: The aim of the present study was to determine condition of the teeth, which are located in the fracture gap of different parts of mandible and substantiate an indications for their removing or retaining. Material and Methods: 114 patients with 186 fractures were involved in this research. Results: 50% or more cases of post-traumatic inflammatory complications were observed in case of contact failure of the teeth roots, that are in a gap of fracture, with the periodontium of these teeth al 1/2 or more of their length. Saving teeth in fracture gap, which have failure of contact with the surrounding periodontium 1/2 and 3/4 the length of the root causes high risk of inflammatory complications in bone and surrounding soft tissues. Conclusions: Based on the specified condition of teeth in the fracture gap different areas of the mandible justified indication for removal or preservation.Item Facial Nerve Neuropathy Caused by its Stretching(Journal of Diagnostics and Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2017-06-30) Tymofieiev, Oleksii; Kryvosheieva, Аnna; Beridze, BekaPurpose: Study the dynamics of changes in electrophysiological parameters of the facial nerve in cases after operative interventions on the parotid and submandibular glands, as well as determine the possibility of using electrical stimulation of the nerve on the hardware-software complex “DIN-1” for the treatment of neuropathy caused by its stretching. Patients and Methods: 31 patients were examined after surgery on the parotid and submandibular glands. Results: Based on the performed patient examinations after parotidectomy and extirpation of the submandibular glands, it was established that in the postoperative period they may have neuropathy of the facial nerve, the cause of which is the stretching of the nerve. Clinical improvement and elimination of symptoms were correlated with normalization of electrophysiological indices of the state of affected branches of the facial nerve. Conclusions: Due to the use of the hardware-software complex “DIN-1” for diagnosis and treatment of the facial nerve neuropathy caused by its stretching, we managed not only to identify and prove the existence of this disease, but also to shorten the terms of rehabilitation of patients 4 times.Item Prevention of Inflammatory Complications upon Surgeries in Maxillofacial Region(Journal of Diagnostics and Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2017-06-30) Tymofieiev, Oleksii; Ushko, Natalia; Tymofieiev, Oleksandr; Yarifa, Maria; Fesenko, IevgenConducting of prophylactic antibiotic therapy in patient after surgical interventions in oral and maxillofacial surgery reduces the incidence of postoperative infectious complications. The analysis of the clean, conditionally clean, dirty (potentially infected), and purulent surgeries is performed. The general questions of prophylaxis of infection complications in plastic, orthognathic, purulent surgeries, and oral microflora are considered. Consecutive cases of postoperative complications and purulent conditions at the head and neck areas are presented. Recommendations on the antibiotic prophylaxis in oral and maxillofacial surgery are given.Item Swimming in the Oceans of Media Technologies(Journal of Diagnostics and Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2017-06-30) Tymofieiev, OleksiiItem Question of the Etiology of Malignant Neoplasms(Journal of Diagnostics and Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2017-12-28) Tymofieiev, Oleksii; Tymofieiev, Oleksandr; Ushko, Natalia; Yarifa, MariiaPurpose: To determine the severity of potentiometric parameters in patients with malignant neoplasms of the oral mucosa and the presence of metal inclusions in the form of non-removable dentures made of dissimilar metals and their alloys. Methods: We examined of potentiometric parameters in 39 patients with metallic inclusions in the oral cavity, in which malignant tumors of the mucous membrane of the oral cavity (tongue, palate, mucous membrane of the alveolar process and the bottom of the oral cavity) were detected. All subjects were between the ages of 40 and 68 years. Results: High potentiometric indicators were revealed in patients with non-removable metal dentures, which are made of dissimilar metals and their alloys. The presence of defects in the lining of dentures, as well as metal parts of a non-removable structure or metal protective coating ("bald zones") increase the potentiometric parameters and increase the risk of malignant neoplasms of the mucous membranes. Conclusions: The presence of metal inclusions in the oral cavity in the form of permanent dentures can be one of the reasons for the development of malignant neoplasms of the mucous membranes. A significant increase (more than 3 times higher than the normal values) of potentiometric parameters in patients with malignant tumors of the mucous membranes with metallic inclusions in the oral cavity is observed not only between the metals of immovable dentures, but also between the metal denture and the mucosa of the alveolar process of the jaw, between different parts of the mucous membranes of the alveolar process.Item Prospects of Dental Implants Placement in Cases of Periodontal Disease(Journal of Diagnostics and Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2017-12-28) Tymofieiev, Oleksii; Yarifa, MariiaABSTRACT Purpose: Determining the effectiveness of Pierre Fabre Oral Сare (French laboratory) hygienic remedies of oral care after conducting all stages of dental implantation in cases with periodontitis. Methods: A survey was held on 65 patients, divided into 2 observation groups: 33 patients with periodontal disease (chronic generalized periodontitis of mild and moderate severity), which during four weeks (one month) after dental implant installation were conducting hygienic care of oral cavity using remedies of Pierre Fabre Oral Care laboratory and 32 patients without periodontal disease and other accompanying diseases (practically healthy people), which next day after dental implant installation started doing hygienic care of oral cavity using traditional oral care products for duration of one month. Results: Based on acquired data, hygienic oral care using Pierre Fabre Oral Care laboratory products has proven to be effective in cases with periodontal disease after conducting surgical stage of dental implantation, which allowed reducing the amount of postoperative inflammatory complications. Conclusion: It is recommended to use hygienic oral care products of Pierre Fabre Oral Care laboratory after conducting dental implantation to prevent the occurrence of early and late inflammatory complications.Item Clash of Videos in the Cutting-Edge Medical Publications(Journal of Diagnostics and Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2017-12-28) Tymofieiev, OleksiiItem Osteoradionecrosis of the Jaws: A Report of Nineteen Consecutive Cases(Journal of Diagnostics and Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2018-03-30) Tymofieiev, Oleksii; Tymofieiev, OleksandrItem Highly Predictable Augmentation of the Alveolar Ridge: Using a Titanium Mesh in Two-Stage Implant Surgery at the Mandible. Report of Clinical Cases and Surgical Technique(Journal of Diagnostics and Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2018-03-30) Mastakov, Oleg; Kondratiuk, Bohdan; An, Anna; Fesenko, IevgenABSTRACT Purpose: The aim of this prospective surgical note was to evaluate the highly predictable horizontal bone gain of the alveolar ridge augmentation in two-stage implant surgery at the mandible with titanium mesh. Material and Methods: Five patients treated with 10 implants and simultaneous guided bone regeneration with ribbed titanium meshes (i–Gen®, MegaGen, Seoul, Republic of Korea) were selected for inclusion in the present surgical note. Primary outcomes were highly predictable horizontal bone gain of the alveolar ridge augmentation, secondary outcomes were biological and prosthetic complications. Results: After the removal of titanium meshes, the cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) showed a mean horizontal bone gain of 2 mm. The most frequent complications were mild postoperative edema (40% of patients) and discomfort after surgery (60% of patients); these complications were resolved within one week. Titanium mesh exposure occurred in 0 patients. And implant survival rate of 100% (implant-based). Conclusions: The horizontal ridge reconstruction with titanium meshes placed simultaneously with dental implants achieved predictable satisfactory results.Item One of the Highest World Privileges(Journal of Diagnostics and Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2018-09-30) Fesenko, IevgenItem Minister Brings the Best World Standards to the Ukrainian Scientific Publications(Journal of Diagnostics and Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2018-09-30) Tymofieiev, OleksiiItem Obituary for Dr. José Guerrerosantos: A Teacher Who Continues to Live in the Works of His Disciples(Journal of Diagnostics and Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2018-09-30) Palacios, Juárez; Fesenko, IevgenItem Linkows’ Blade-Vent Implants Continue to Work After Twenty-Nine Years: Case Report(Journal of Diagnostics and Treatment of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2018-09-30) Zhehulovych, Zinaida; Fesenko, Ievgen; Al-Makhamid, NadimWe report a case of two osseointegrated Linkows` blade-vent implants supported fixed partial dentures that still osseointegrated at the mandible of 54-yeor-old patient during last twenty-nine years.
